Show Garden at RHS Tatton Park 2006

Silver Medallist

Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, Gilpin Lodge is transforming itself into a gardener's haven. A Relais & Chateaux hotel with a Michelin starred restaurant (privately owned and run by the Cunliffe family since 1987) set in 22 acres of its own country gardens, Gilpin Lodge launched six new 'Garden Suites' in July. To celebrate this new venture the hotel opens a show garden at the Royal Horticultural Society Show at Tatton Park, 18th - 23rd July.

Gilpin Lodge Garden Suite GardensDesigned by Ben Cunliffe Architects, the concept behind the Garden Suites was to create an entirely private nature-inspired domain for guests at the hotel. Imagine strolling out into your own garden and sinking into a traditional cedarwood hot tub, with surrounding ponds and water features made from traditional Lakeland stone. As dusk falls, enjoy the evening garden lighting that combines with the natural features to create a stunning 'garden theatre'. Plants have been specifically chosen to create interest both during the day and night, and also during winter, as the gardens will be used all year round.

A garden suiteDesigned for complete relaxation with a large, light and airy space, the suites have glass-fronted lounge areas leading to individual gardens with outdoor cedarwood hot tubs, enormous beds, walk-in dressing rooms, large sofas, modern fireplaces and sensual bathrooms. Whether relaxing by the fire after a Michelin starred dinner, listening to music or enjoying one of the in-room spa treatments, the rooms are a haven of serenity and relaxation.

In conjunction with the launch of the suites, the hotel hosts its own show garden; it is the first hotel ever to enter the show at Tatton Park. Gilpin Lodge worked alongside the co-sponsors of the garden, Gilpin Gardens and Waterslack Garden Centre, to create a show garden in the vein of the Garden Suite gardens.

RHS Tatton Park Show GardenWorking with Ben Cunliffe Architects, Gilpin Gardens designed and created the show garden, and supplied and installed the wooden hot tub. Gilpin Gardens provides garden landscape design services alongside UKdistribution of traditional Canadian cedarwood hot tubs and saunas, where traditional barrel making blends with modern technology to produce some of the world's finest cedarwood hot tubs and saunas.
